Philosopher
Susanne Schmetkamp

As a philosopher, I engage with fundamental questions of human relationships, self- and world-perception, and aesthetic experience. I work as a lecturer, author, and moderator. As an SNSF Assistant Professor at the University of Fribourg, from 2019-2025 I led a six-year research project on the "Aesthetics and Ethics of Attention". I am currently affiliated with the University of Lucerne and the Zurich University of the Arts. My areas of expertise include aesthetic experience in all its variations, perspective-taking, empathy, attention, emotions, love, and currently most importantly: grief. She is mother of five kids and lives in Zurich.
